What is high potential and gifted education?
Inspire – High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.
We do this through:
- effective teaching strategies like enrichment, extension and acceleration
- tailored support during lessons that stretch, challenge and inspire
- access to a wide range of opportunities both within and beyond our school.
Our high potential and gifted education opportunities
- Development of differentiated tasks that adjust pace, complexity, and encourage thinking skills, ensuring each student is appropriately challenged and engaged in their learning journey.
- Ongoing formative assessment practices that closely monitor student growth and inform instructional adjustments, allowing for personalised learning experiences that meet individual needs.
- Targeted learning intentions focused on developing coordination, agility, and control, supporting the holistic physical, social-emotional and cognitive development of students.
- Safe and supportive learning environments that encourage confidence and safe risk-taking, helping students to overcome challenges and build resilience.
- Our school provides opportunities for student voice and student leadership focused social skills through:
- School captain and prefect opportunities
- Life Skills in Action (LSIA) – community and work programs
- Our school has active links with other nearby schools and their local communities, collaboratively participating in shared events. For example, students may participate in HPGE events, such as the Liverpool Arts and Film Festival.
- We engage in the Mini Fit – providing opportunities for students to develop skills and competitive skills in sport. https://www.minifit.com.au/
- Our high school food technology programs provide opportunities for students to develop and shine in hospitality skills, including food preparation and service.
- We engage students in industry work education opportunities to develop independence and foster problem-solving skills, such as travel training on buses and trains, and supported work options with Hoxton Industries and other Australian Disability Enterprises.
- The Sports Unit offers a diverse range of learning opportunities across the domains of potential. Our students participate in a range of offerings provided by the Sports Unit including Boccia, Multi-Sport days and Tenpin Bowling.
